NAITSA E-News February Edition

The NAITSA office is located at E-131 Main Campus, and is open from 8 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday.

NAITSA needs your vote!

Nominations have closed, which means that potential NAITSA executives are going to be on the campaign trail until the 8th, at which time you’ll have the next week to vote for your 2010/2011 President, VP Campus Life, VP External, and VP Academic!

Your elected Student Executives are there to advocate for your voice as a student in meetings with NAIT administration, government officials, and other student leaders. They work with such issues as tuition prices, transit accessibility and funding, campus culture and NAITSA bylaws and policies.

Your informed vote will affect the decisions made on these topics! If you are interested in learning more about the candidates and their views, Executive Council Candidate Speeches will be given at the Shaw Theatre on February 4th from 12-1pm. Candidate profiles will also be available in The Nugget February 4th.

Visit the NAITSA website, www.naitsa.ca between February 9th and 11th and log in with your student ID to vote.

Nest

As your student-financed restaurant and lounge, The Nest strives to offer quality food and service to NAIT students, at the lowest costs possible.

That´s why when we heard some questions from students about our pricing, we responded immediately with a new menu featuring a bounty of delicious, low-cost options and specials, such as Nooner Pizzas and lunchtime Soup and Sandwich combos for just $7.00. Budget friendly pastas, personal sized poutine, nachos and side sized gourmet salads are some other tempting dishes. Need some food, fun and relaxation after classes? There´s also cheap wing, dry rib and calamari nights each week. You can even host an event (big or small) at the Nest for you and your classmates; just speak to Margot or Michelle!

We´ve had some really positive feedback in The Nugget for our new changes! Read Mackenzie Marshall´s December 3rd review for more details:

Nugget editor speaks out in tuition debate

CHRIS CARMICHAEL-POWELL, Editor-in-Chief of The Nugget student newspaper, has written an interesting article in light of the recent tuition debates at NAIT and in Alberta in general:

Also on this trend is Maclean's magazine, which recently published an article about tuition increases and the costs of bureaucracy in universities across Canada:

The new NAITSA website is in full effect!

Here at NAITSA, we have redesigned our website for greater usability. New features include a scrolling bar in which upcoming events are visible on the main page, an events calendar to replace the old list format, Nest specials posted daily, and a forum for students to get involved in!

Please visit the new website and check out the new events and Nest pages, or get involved in the forum by posting your used textbooks, chatting with other students, or advertising your club-related event.

To give us feedback about the website redesign, or for any questions, please email jturner@nait.ca
